虽然Jessica Simpson在各种“最不适合唱歌明星”评选中屡屡名列前茅，但是她的妹妹却比她在音乐发展上要成功和顺利许多。Ashlee Simpson的这张个人处女作专辑早在发行之初就表现出了远胜过姐姐的咄咄逼人之势，加上Geffen公司成功的商业运作，这张专辑在发行首周就暴风雨般的以首周39万8千张的销量宣告了这位歌坛新偶像的诞生，并且如愿以偿的摘取了Billboard 200排行榜的冠军，这是就连她的明星姐姐都从来没有达到过的成绩。
如果说Jessica Simpson是那种以舞曲风格作品为主的相对老套的偶像流行音乐的话，那么Ashlee Simpson的这张专辑则显示出了更多新世纪之后的偶像流行乐发展特点，略带有些摇滚和朋克风格的作品使她更向Avril Lavigne式的新流行偶像靠拢。12首歌曲，全部都有Ashlee Simpson的参与创作，这种具有创作性的特点也是过去那些单纯的偶像明星们所不具备的。
或许因为姐姐Jessica Simpson不会唱歌是出了名的，原本一头金发的Ashlee Simpson在这张专辑里把头发染成了黑色，乍看起来就像另一位明星家属Kelly Osbourne。其实从这张专辑来看，Ashlee Simpson的作品比他姐姐的要成功多了，起码她避重就轻，选择了摇滚式的歌曲风格，避免了像姐姐一样因为难堪的舞步而出糗。《Autobiography》和《Pieces Of Me》是这张专辑里两首出色的单曲，歌词内容也更多的反映了Ashlee Simpson的想法，不过这两首单曲也并不能掩盖专辑整体作品的平庸，听到专辑的后半段恐怕已经不能有什么调动歌迷胃口的歌曲了。选择摇滚倾向的风格显然是很符合Ashlee Simpson的特点和爱好的，起码可以避免她重蹈姐姐的覆辙，就这张专辑来看，虽然印象深刻的作品不多，但是首张专辑的效果还是相当不错的。

阿什莉·辛普森从首张专辑走的就是象艾薇尔一样的流行朋克/摇滚的路线，在新专辑《I Am Me》中，有部分歌曲是阿什莉·辛普森连同制作人卡拉.迪奥瓜迪(Kara Dioguardi)和约翰.山克斯(John Shanks)一同创作的。 从音乐上来说，新专辑《I Am Me》比《Autobiography》更“带劲”，也体现出Joan Jett和Terri Nunn等一些80年代女摇滚音乐人对阿什莉的影响。另人惊奇的是，尽管阿什莉·辛普森今年才20岁，她却说自己喜欢80年代的音乐。“80年代音乐是那么轻松有趣，这正是我想在新专辑中做到的。”阿什莉说。
